Perfect, inexpensive way to protect the top of your posts from moisture. And they look good doing it.
I am very pleasantly surprised by how good these caps are. A lot of thought and care went into them. The finished product reflects it: the finish on these caps is very good, and the plastic itself is also good quality. Construction is well done, with no jagged plastic remnants from molding. The color is slightly off-white (colonial white?), and I assume they can be painted another color if necessary.
The cap fits as intended: in one cap, you get the flexibility to use it on a 4"x4" post (by removing the insert) or use it as is (with insert in) for a 3.5"x3.5" post. The cap is easy to install. On old weathered wood posts, with drying and delamination of the post, it may be necessary to sand the post a bit for the cap to fit snugly. In other words, this is a well-defined product that serves its purpose and is easy to install.
These are a simple, but well made and packaged product that looks clean and comes with the appropriate hardware (screws) to keep them tight on your fence so you don't have to worry about them flying off in the wind. These are well priced for the number provide and the prices seem to scale really well the more you buy. It's a great value.
Important detail: One thing I wish I realized before I bought is that this comes in a "two piece" system. A bracket and the cap. The bracket adds about 6mm. My old caps (that flew off) have no bracket, and as a result is basically flush with my post. These stick out, BUT, not a big deal. I've moved all the old ones back against my tree-line where no one will see them.
These are nicer than the ones that originally came with my fence anyway.
